Cirrhapetalum sp. (Unknown)

Okay, my first cry for help -- if anyone out there can name this species (?), could you leave a comment on this post (bottom right hand corner)? I picked this up for free from a vendor at the close of the Miami International Orchid Show a couple years ago -- the tag was lost and it hadn't any blooms yet.

UPDATE: Thanks to the experts over at the GardenWeb.com Orchid Forum -- this seems to be either a variant or hybrid of Cirr. auratum.

Cadetia taylori

A small-growing orchid found in the wild in a surprisingly wide variety of environments in New Guinea. Tiny (about 1 cm across) white blooms that form from short spikes short-lived.

Cattleya lodigesii var. alba

This is just one of the many forms of C. lodigesii that can be found in the forest of South America. Flowers are rather smallish and short-lived, but the compact, but multi-growth plant blooms pretty often.

Amesiella philippinensis

Okay -- not a very good picture, but this is small Angraecoid from the Philippines with relatively large flowers (compared to the plant) and a strong fragrance.

Angraecum eburneum

From the Madagascar sub-continent, this large-growing Angraecum has been consistently blooming for me every December through January. Long, multi-floral spikes, about 2 ft long, carry upturned white to cream blooms with short spurs.

Bulbophyllum grandiflorum(syn. Hyalosema grandiflora)

Found in the jungles of Indonesia through New Guinea, this species has been more accurately classified under the Hyalosema genus. Blooms are large, with olive, floppy-eared petals.

Bulbophyllum carunculatum

A species from the Philippines, this large-growing Bulbophyllum sends out long (up to 2') spikes with blooms that open successively -- when one dies, the next one appears. Mildly fragrant (foul smell), but not as pungent as Bulb. echinolabium or Bulb. phalaenopsis.

Bulbophyllum suluwesii

From Indonesia, this is one of the larger members of the genus, like B. echinolabium. However, flowers of this species are a bit more flimsy with more pendulous spikes. Also, blooms tend to open at the same time rather than consecutively. The picture above was taken at the European Orchid Conference when it was held in London, while the picture below was taken at a San Francisco Orchid Society show.

Bulbophyllum picturatum

This native of India is quite large -- umbels, when spread out, are about 7" across. This picture was also taken at the Honolulu Orchid Society Show a few years ago.

Bulbophyllum medusae

This specimen was displayed at the Honolulu Orchid Society Show a few years ago. A native to Southeast Asia, it's name source is obvious.

Bifrenaria harrisoneae

This was taken at a show in London -- I haven't been able to bloom my plants as I believe it is too warm here. This is a South American species found in higher elevations of the Amazon basin. Below is the not-so-common alba variety.

Bulbophyllum echinolabium

This foul-smelling giant (about 12" from top to bottom) is one of my favorites! This is quite difficult to find commercially as the success rate for self-pollenization is low.

Bulbophyllum lobii 'Kathy's Gold' FCC/AOS

This is an exceptional specimen growing on one of my parent's trees in the backyard -- I tied it their about 5 years ago and it took hold pretty quickly. It blooms like crazy once a year! As explained by its source, it was obtained from "a division of a division of a division, ..., from the original awarded plant." I wouldn't doubt it -- I've been told Bulbophyllums are typically difficult to mericlone.
